Beet vs beef… which steak will take the crown? 

🥊  Round 1 *ding ding ding* — Heart Health 

While frequent consumption of red meat is linked to heart disease, regular consumption of beets actually helps prevent it. Because of their high concentration of nitrates, beets help lower your blood pressure, therefore reducing our risk of heart disease. One point for beets!

🥊  Round 2 *ding ding ding*  — Iron

Many people associate red meat with iron… and while it does contain a lot of iron, beets contain even more iron than red meat! Iron is an essential mineral needed for proper blood production in our bodies and beets are one of the richest sources. Another point for beets! 

🥊  Round 3 *ding ding ding* — Fiber

Regular consumption of fiber is necessary to help regulate your digestive system and your body’s use of sugars. Most Americans are deficient in fiber — a problem that studies show may lead to a number of diseases from heart disease to colon + breast cancer. Beets are a good source of fiber, while beef contains none at all.

While you may be thinking “but, beef has more protein,” you are technically correct. However, beets (and ALL plants, at that) contain protein and are far healthier options than any meat alternative. As long as we are consuming a variety of plants throughout the day, we will likely get more than enough protein.


Heating Instructions

Heat steaks on lightly oiled pan over med. heat for 3 mins on each side. Then spoon demi over steaks and cook for 1-2 more mins. Then, heat purée in same pan for 2-3 mins, stirring frequently — plate everything + enjoy!
